Obituary for Sue H Beckum
Mrs. Sue Hamilton Beckum, 87, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April, 5, 2018 at Greenwood Funeral Home with interment in Itta Bena Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 A.M. prior to the services. Rev. Brad Hodges will officiate.
Sue was born in Leflore County to Eldridge and Eunice Hamilton on January 26, 1931. She was raised in Brookhaven, Ms and relocated back to Leflore County prior to her marriage to James Burnett Beckum. She and her late husband lived in Minter City, MS where they operated a small family farm and trucking business. Sue attended secretarial school and worked for many years at Dixie Mobile Homes and Sunnyside Elementary School before retiring.
Sue was a member of the Minter City Methodist Church and later attended services at First United Methodist Church in Greenwood when she moved to Magnolia Manor in 2007. She was a member of the Garden Club and several bridge clubs. She volunteered for the Museum of the MS Delta and Golden Age. Sue loved to travel and collect rocks for her flower garden. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Gloria Causey. She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Montgomery of Minter City, MS and her son, James “Butch” Beckum (Sharon) also of Minter City. She is survived by her grandsons, Michael Bussey (Kristi) of Carrollton, MS, Lee Montgomery of Greenwood, MS, Bobby Petermann (Mary Katelyn) of Ruleville, MS, Jason Beckum (Amber) of Winona, MS and her granddaughter, Renee Beckum of Jackson, MS. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grand child and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Bussey, Lee Montgomery, Bobby Petermann, Jason Beckum, Paul Britt, and Anthony Gammill. Honorary pallbearers will be Haiden Montgomery and Michael Bussey, III.
Memorials may be made to the Minter City Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church of Greenwood, MS.
