Obituary for Melvin Lamar Self
Greenwood, MS: Melvin L. Self, 75, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Funeral Services are 2 P.M. Sunday December 3, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Brad Hodges and Rev. Glen Seefeld will officiate.
Melvin was born in Holmes County, MS to George and Georgia Self. He was a graduate of Tchula High School and retired after 37 years as parts manager for Buddy Jones Ford. A faithful member of First United Methodist Church, he attended the Good News Sunday school class and sang in the church choir. He loved to hunt, fish and watch his grandchildren play sports. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Jean Lamb.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances Heard Self, two sons; Michael Wayne “Mike” Clanton (Sarah) of Burke, VA, and Marty Self (Kimberly) of Greenwood, three brothers; Wayne Self (Gail) of Cruger, Calvin Self of Tchula and Dr. Robert E. Self of Charleston and four grandchildren; Emily Clanton, Roger Clanton, Georgia Caroline Self and Liza Mason Self.
Pallbearers will be, Mark Morgan, John Moyer, Gary McGehee, Jason Ostrowski, John Mark Self and Sandy Weathers.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Greenwood, MS.
Visitation will be Saturday evening from 4-6P.M at Greenwood Funeral Home.
