Obituary for Jane Nowlin Malouf
A celebration of the life of Jane Nowlin Malouf will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. She passed away peacefully at her home on April 14, 2018.
She was the only child of John Robert and Betty Mae Nowlin, born August 28, 1922 in Sharon, Tennessee. She spent her early childhood in Martin, Tennessee before moving to Greenwood while in high school.
It was in Greenwood that she met Abe Malouf, whom she would later marry on December 31, 1942 at Keesler Air Force Base where he was stationed. They would spend the next 61 years together until his death in 2003.
Marrying the youngest of 8 Malouf siblings meant that this only child now had a much larger extended family, and she delighted in keeping careful note of all new additions in her family book. Her favorite additions of course were her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren, all of whose activities she kept up with religiously.
She was a great lover of animals, a trait she passed on to her children. She would always inquire about the family pets and was delighted whenever they came along for visits.
She was a faithful communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood until her health prevented her attendance, after which she took communion regularly at her home.
She is survived by her children, Abe Malouf, Jr. (Gerry Ann) and Doris Farrell; her grandchildren, Claire Gatlin (Cole) and Christopher Farrell (Rachel); and great grandchildren Elizabeth, Mary Linley, Henry, and Ann Alden Gatlin; and Kaius Farrell.
The family wishes to thank Lula Coleman, Janie Jones, Betty Hampton, and Lillie Swims for their loving care and kindness during her illness. Special thanks also to Legacy Hospice nurses Jo Morman and Penny Browning with whom she formed a special relationship. The family wishes to express special gratitude to the late Dr. Walter Moses, Jr. for his care and compassion over many years. He was truly a blessing to our entire family.
Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. Pall bearers will be John Malouf, George Malouf, Shane Malouf, Dr. Jeff Moses, Cole Gatlin, and Buster Norris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to IHM Catholic Church, P.O. Box 313 Greenwood, MS 38930, or to a favorite charity.
