Charles was born on February 10, 1936 in Boise, Idaho to Linfield and Margaret Gilbert Purifoy.

He returned to Greenwood and began his private dental practice. He later joined Dr. Perry Whites’ until his retirement in 2008. As much as he loved the outdoors, he also relished a good Western – especially if John Wayne or Clint Eastwood made an appearance. He was passionate about Ole Miss Football, PA Girls Basketball, broiled steaks, dirty Martinis, and Judge Judy.
