Obituary for David W Fondren
David W. Fondren, Sr., 72, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at his home
in Greenwood. Funeral services are 2 P.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2018 at
Greenwood Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Jones officiating. Visitation is
Tuesday evening from 5-7 at the funeral home.
David was born March 29, 1945 in New Orleans, LA to Lee W. and Ann Hightower
Fondren. He was reared in the Greenwood Leflore County area graduating from
Leflore County High School where he ran track and played football. He
majored in Construction Technology at MS Delta Community College. He had
worked for Itta Bena Building Supply, farmed, and later worked as a
phlebotomist at Cutter Lab Plasma Center at the Parchman State Correctional
facility grounds. He later was co-owner of the Hattiesburg Plasma Center.
After returning to Greenwood he worked for Leflore County as Deputy Sheriff
and Public Safety and Zoning officer for 30 years. Mr. Fondren was a member
of Christ Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a
daughter, Virginia "Ginger" F. Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Gail Fondren, a son; David W.
Fondren, Jr. (Sharon Lessley) of Holcomb, MS, a brother; Mike Fondren
(Ramona) of Elliott, MS, and three grandchildren; Lee Fondren, II, of
Memphis, TN, Sheldon Moore of Waveland, MS, and Teal Scott of Hattiesburg,

Lindsey, 10530 CR 243, Sidon, MS 38954, or to Blair E. Batson Children's
hospital in Jackson or to the Charity of the donor's choice.
